Far-Fetched

Far-Fetched

Devin Johnston

via birdcalls and old songs, rain patter and a child's scribble, the poems in Far-Fetched "sound the empty area / to check how lengthy / how far." They stick to the contours of Appalachian hillsides, Missouri river bends, and distant Australian coastlines, tuning language to panorama. They sign up emotional existence with nice care; this can be a paintings of fierce and gentle consciousness to the area. it's also poetry intended to be heard, alert to the pleasures of sound. As August Kleinzahler has saw, "In Devin Johnston's poetry each syllable is alive; the vowels and consonants mix to make a particular, beautiful, austere music."
