Stay, Illusion, the much-anticipated quantity of poems by means of Lucie Brock-Broido, illuminates the damaged yet attractive global she inhabits. Grandeur devolves right into a comedian irony: “We have come to phrases with our Self / Like a marmoset getting out of her nice Ape suit.” She dares the unexplained: “The wings have been left ajar / on the altar the place I’ve knelt all evening, trembling, leaning, tough / As sugar uncooked, and sweet.” each one poem is a rebellious chain of phrases: “Be strong, they acknowledged, and so too i used to be / sturdy till i used to be not.” unusual narratives, inside and external, make an international that's overseas and but our personal; like Dickinson, Brock-Broido constructs a spider-sibling, commanding the “silk spool of the recluse as she confects her eventual mythomania.” And why create the net? simply because: “If it really is written down, you can’t rescind it.”
