using the files of a number of Venetian courts that handled intercourse crimes, Ruggiero strains the evolution of either licit and illicit sexuality through the 14th and fifteenth centuries. He argues that using such documents unearths not just the character of sexual behaviour that used to be thought of felony, but additionally what society validated because the norm. via this exam of illicit sexuality, Ruggiero sheds mild at the associations, languages, social existence and values not just of this shadow-culture, but in addition of Venetian society and, eventually, the Renaissance itself.
