wintry weather, 1666. A moment struggle has damaged out among the English and the Dutch . . . Captain Matthew Quinton’s 5th project for King and nation is to the Swedish court docket at Gothenburg. Sweden is on the peak of its army energy, and Quinton is charged with securing an important aid in England’s new warfare opposed to her outdated enemy, the Dutch republic. Accompanying him is the mysterious Lord Conisborough, who – unknown to his captain – is sworn to a different, mystery undertaking related to the infamous regicide John Bale, by myself between friends of the area to signal the dying warrant of Charles I. Gothenburg proves to be a hotbed of dangerously conflicting loyalties, and Quinton and staff locate themselves desiring aid from the main unforeseen quarters.
